Extra Credit Opportunity

What: Reef Watchers
Come learn and practice how to identify fish, limu, corals and other sea creatures. You will also learn how to count species and keep data. Bring swimsuit, towel, snorkel, mask, waterbottle, lunch for a day of sun, water, and underwater exploration.
When: Saturday, November 12th 9am-2pm
Where: Richardson Beach

What you need to do:
1. Call Jan or Sarah Moon at 935-3475 to register, its free, but they need an idea of who is coming.
2. Go and participate Saturday November 12
3. Write a short paper answer these questions:
- Who were the instructors?
- What did you learn?
- What were 10 different species that you saw during your expedition, and give me a brief description of at least 5?
- Personal statement

Turn it in before Thanksgiving break for a possible 20 extra credit points

Hopefully you have begun your studies well in advance and will not be cramming for this test. Some study tips:
- Know your essential elements (Make Flash Cards)
- Know how an atom works, what makes it bond, what makes it unique, how it reacts
- Understand acids, bases and ph scale
- Be able to identify molecular and structural formulas. DO YOU KNOW THEM WELL ENOUGH TO IDENTIFY FALSE STRUCTURES?
- Understand the form and function of the organic substances: carbohydrates, lipids, proteins

The Hawaii COunty Committee on the Status of Women is sponsoring some FREE workshops to educate people (male and female type people) about women's health issues.

The assignment:
Go to one of the workshops mentioned below.
Participate, learn lots, have fun. Write me a one page reaction addressing
- The date, time, and location of the workshop
- The name of the presenter

Note to students:
Remember, test on chapter 1 is on Wednesday!
Tips for studying: Do not stress on every detail in the book. Focus on what we did in class, reread your notes, and let the text suppliment the lectures.
Identify gaps in your understanding, what are you cloudy on, what don't you know very well.
Study with a friend, point out the different regions of the body, practice using anatomical terms.
Make flash cards! Lots of new terminology to get confused on.
Don't cram - Do not put this off until Tuesday night, Wednesday morning to study for, you will do poorly.
